Step 1: Check out any book from the JP Catholic Library. Sign it out in the Library Checkout Log.

Step 2: Read the book.

Step 3: Go to the Library Blog – jpcatholiclibrary.blogspot.com.

Step 4: Click on the link for the BOOK REVIEW FORM. Fill out the short form with your name, contact info, book title/author/call number, and a 150-word book review with your thoughts on the book you read.

(150? Is that a lot? No, it’s LESS than number of words in this blog post!)

Step 5: Return the book to the Library Return Box within two weeks, and mark your return date in the Checkout Log. (Make sure you bring back your books on time and sign them in, so other people can read them too!)

That’s it! Super easy!

Book reviews will be posted to the Library Blog, and all reviews will be entered into a raffle to win gift cards to Panera, Starbucks, Jamba Juice, and Coldstone.

Want to access articles from the Wall Street Journal online?

Follow these easy steps.

Step 1) Visit the JP Catholic Library Databases page. Click on the link that says "Click here to search the San Diego Public Library Catalog and Databases."

2) Step 2: At the SDPL page, click on the "Magazines & Newspapers" link.

3) When prompted, enter your library card number.

4) From the list, select "Newspapers - National and Regional (ProQuest)".

5) Click on the "Publications" tab and type in the name of the publication ("Wall Street Journal"), OR just browse the listing under "W", and select your preferred edition of the "Wall Street Journal".

6) You can search full-text articles dating from 1984 to present day. Search by keyword, date, or select a specific issue.

Information Literacy Workshop

Mark your calendars. All students are required to attend the Information Literacy Workshop offered by the JP Catholic Library.

This interactive, hands-on workshop covers:

Accessing library resources (virtual and physical) from both on and off campus
Evaluating websites
Understanding differences between popular, scholarly, and trade publications
Focusing research topics
Planning efficient search strategies
Finding and evaluating authoritative, credible sources and relevant information

Space is limited in each session, and advance registration is required. Email mbagay@jpcatholic.com to register for one of the following sessions:

Monday, February 2 - 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM
Tuesday, February 3 - 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM
Friday, February 6 - 1 PM to 2 PM
Friday, February 6 - 2 PM to 3 PM

Prerequisites: All students who attend this workshop must get a San Diego Public Library (SDPL) card BEFORE coming to the workshop. No library card, no workshop. Getting your library card is quick, easy, and free. To get your library card: download and fill out the application form, bring it to any SDPL branch, go up to the circulation desk (you know, that counter where they check out the books...), give them your form, and show your picture ID. That's it! You can also get a hard copy of the form at any SDPL branch library and fill it out there.

Make sure to bring your library card AND laptop with wireless access to the workshop.

Why should you come to this workshop?

It's a requirement for graduation. Want to graduate? Come to the workshop.
You'll learn how to access library resources and services on campus, and from the comfort of your own apartment at 2 AM in the morning.
The skills you'll learn will save you TONS of time, energy, and frustration on your next research paper.
Chances are that even after you graduate, you'll still be using search engines and looking for information (...to buy your house, start your business, find a graduate school, plan your vacation, or decide what new restaurant you want to try for dinner...). After this workshop, you'll become more familiar with the resources available through local public libraries, and you'll also learn a few tips on searching Google more efficiently too.
